May 5, 2008 — Gourmet Boutique, a company based in Jamaica, N.Y., is reviewing about 286,320 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that will be sullied with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

No ailments linked to the reviewed foods have been reported, according to the U.S. Division of Horticulture (USDA).

Listeria can cause listeriosis, an unprecedented but potentially deadly disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. But listeriosis can cause tall fever, extreme migraine, neck firmness, and nausea. It can too cause premature delivery and stillbirth, as well as serious and sometimes deadly infections in infants, seniors, and people with debilitated resistant frameworks.

The recall incorporates 21 items — counting chicken salads, sandwiches, and burritos — that were distributed across the nation. A full list of the recalled products is posted on the USDA web site.
